NLC demands reinstatement of annual leave grant, wage increment for Yobe civil servants

The Yobe State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has called for the reinstatement of annual leave grants and increment of salary for civil servants in the state to cushion negative impact of inflation.

The Council’s Chairman, Comrade Muktar Musa Tarbutu, presented the demand on Wednesday while addressing workers and government officials on the occasion of this year’s May Day celebration in Damaturu.

Tarbutu noted that within the last one year, workers and the entire citizens of the country have been facing unimaginable hardship.

“The theme for this year’s celebration, ‘People First’, is a direct link to Section (2) (b) of the Nigerian Constitution which declares that security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

“By this theme we demand on government to prioritize the interest, wellbeing and welfare of the people they are elected to serve,” Tarbutu said.

Yobe State Head of Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, commended workers in the state for their support for the government.

He assured workers that all their requests would be looked into in view of the current economic situation in the country.
