Nigerians suffering due to hasty govt policies – UK-based scholar, Udoidiong

A Nigerian-UK based scholar, Mr Innocent Udoidiong, has attributed the economic hardship being experienced in the country to hasty government policies.

Udoidiong, who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Innocent Udoidiong Foundation, stated this on Friday after donating cash to about 60 widows in Ediene, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking in Ediene, Abak LGA, Udoidiong called on well-to-do individuals and public-spirited organizations, including politicians, to undertake more humanitarian gestures to address the economic hardship in the country.

He explained that the call for more humanitarian gestures is necessary as it seems that governments have turned a deaf ear to the suffering masses, with officials concentrating their lives in the cities and neglecting the rural population.

According to him, “At a time like this, where it appears the government has turned a deaf ear to the plight and wailing of the suffering masses, we need to step up humanitarian gestures.

“It is very disheartening that most government officials concentrate their lives in the cities. Do they care to go down to the trenches to see what the people are going through?”

He added, “I left Nigeria to study in the UK some years ago, and with the little God has blessed me with, I feel compelled to put a smile on people’s faces, not just my immediate family.

“It is sad to see what people go through as a result of hasty government policies. I pray we will all get out of these. Please, if God has blessed you, do not hesitate to bless others who may not be as privileged as you,” he stated.
