The Federal Ministry of Works has issued a notice of termination of the contract with Julius Berger on the rehabilitation of Section 1 Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria- Kano road over alleged delay of the project execution without justification.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister of Works’ Special Adviser Assistant on media and publicity, Uchenna Orji.

Parts of the statement read, “The Ministry has braced for a change in the ugly attitudes of some contractors who have constituted themselves into a cartel and sacred cows, the infectious syndrome of business-as-usual and capital flight in contract execution masterminded by some expatriate contractors, the reckless chase for variation on price and foreign exchange differentials, the utter disregard for value for money, quality and timely delivery of projects.

“The Minister of Works, His Excellency, Engr Nweze David Umahi, has shown that professionalism, passion, innovation, and determination can progressively shape the policy landscape of the works sector.

“With his ingenious sense of responsibility, articulate precision in facts and figures, unflinching tenacity in logically driving the Renewed Hope road infrastructure revolution agenda and zero tolerance for nothing short of performance, all contractors must know that the time for Nigeria first is now.”
