Nigerian govt announces investment in cookstoves to reduce carbon emissions

The Nigerian government has announced an investment in cookstoves to mitigate rising energy costs and address climate change challenges.

Khalil Halilu, Executive Vice chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), disclosed this in a statement on Thursday by its director of information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan.

According to Halilu, the agency will partner with Powerstove, a pioneering Nigerian cookstove company, to help meet the growing demand for clean and efficient cookstoves and significantly reduce carbon emissions in Nigeria.

He added that investment underscores Nigeria’s strong commitment to addressing climate change and has the potential to drive decarbonization efforts.

“With this investment, NASENI is not only supporting an impact-driven enterprise but also positioning itself to benefit from carbon credit revenue, thereby reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development,” Halilu said.
