The 3 Division of the Nigerian Army Rukuba, Jos, on Friday emerged winner of the Inter Division Combat Platoon Orienteering and Adventure Competition.
The 3 Division polled a total of 360 points to defeat its closest rival, Nigerian Army Headquarters Garrison, Abuja, who scored 340 points. The 2 Division came third after scoring 330 points.
The troops that participated in the contest include those of the Army Headquarters Garrison Abuja, 1 Division (Kaduna), 2 Division (Ibadan), 3 Division (Jos), 81 Division (Lagos), 82 Division (Enugu) and 6 Division (Port Harcourt).
The exercise was organised by the Nigerian Army Headquarters and held at 3 Division Physical Training Ground and Small Arms Range Miango, Jos, Plateau State.
Speaking at the closing session, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was represented by the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armoured School, Maj Gen Adewale Adekeye, said the Nigerian Army’s commitment to “excellence and preparedness” was demonstrated in the championship.
He said, “It is gratifying to note that the exercise which started since Monday has gone on seamlessly and the purpose for which it was organised has been brought to fore, evidently clear to all of us here.
“The main objective of this championship is to showcase the exceptional skills, dedication, teamwork, comradeship embodied in our troops and displayed in their actions in the series of competitions that have been staged, while these troops are discharging their constitutional role in line with the Chief of Army Staff command philosophy.
“It is therefore imperative that your capacity, for the sensitive parts of defending and securing the nation is an ask to meet the aspiration of the citizens whom we serve.”
