Niger State Police Command has beefed up security in Tara Local Government Area and its environs to stem the tide of kidnappings in parts of the council.
It also rescued four persons out of several other victims kidnapped from the Kpakuru forest area of Kagarko, Kaduna State and Chachi village of Tafa LG.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in Minna, said the police presence was increased, in view of some recent incidents of kidnapping around Garam, Azu, Ijah-Gwari, Chachi and Jibi villages of the council.
He said, ”The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, on Wednesday 17/01/2024 dispatched a tactical team led by Area Commander Suleja, ACP Sani Musa and AC Operations ACP Muazu Muhammad, with Anti-kidnapping unit, tactical support team (TST), and patrol teams of Suleja Area Command to the aforementioned areas,”. he stated.
Abiodun explained that the measure was adopted to complement the inaugurated Special Intervention Squad of the IGP to cover FCT, Niger, Kaduna, and other vulnerable points.
The command’s spokesman further disclosed that the team was directed to embark on confidence-building patrol and visibility policing in the area to avert reoccurrence and intensify efforts to rescue the remaining abducted victims in captivity.
