Niger Govt moves to block revenue leakages in MDAs

The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has abolished the “Generate and Utilize” practice by all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)/including Tertiary Institutions to block financial leakages in the state.

Bago disclosure during the presentation of the 2024 budget proposal to the members of the State House of Assembly in Minna.

According to him, “The move was adopted to block leakages and intensify internally generated revenue through self-sufficiency and accountability of all revenue receipts by MDAs.”

Bago, who announced his desire to be addressed as ‘Farmer Governor’, explained that to build a new and sustainable Niger, the 2024 Budget will focus on Urban Renewal and Rural Transformation, Security of Lives and Property and Infrastructural Development.

Other priority areas include Agriculture and Food Security, Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Women and Children, Environmental Sustainability and People with Special Needs and Elderly Care.

He added that the newly approved Niger State University of Education will be named after late Engr Abdullahi Abdulkadir Kure, a former Governor of Niger State.
