Niger Govt engages organised labour in dialogue to avert strike

In a bid to avert the looming strike by workers, the government of Niger State has expressed its readiness to dialogue with organised labour to amicably resolve its demands in the best interest of the state.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alh. Abubakar Usman said the government appreciates the position of organised labour on certain contentious matters.

The statement explained: ” The present administration had enjoyed a cordial relationship with organised labour. In furtherance of this understanding, the Government of Niger State today, Tuesday, 20th February 2024, invited organised labour to a meeting and it is hoping to receive its cooperation in this regard. Government is disposed to continuous discussion with the organised labour.”

The statement also assured the general public that the administration of Governor Mohammed Bago is people- and labour-friendly and remains open to dialogue and negotiations that will move Niger State forward.

It added: “The present administration is committed to the principle of dialogue and social bargaining for the benefit of the state.”
