Niger gov sets up Refugees Commission with N500m take off grant

Niger State Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago has set up a State Refugees Commission with the sum of N500 million to carter for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Bago made this known during a symbolic presentations to some of the 700 households beneficiaries of the relief materials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs held in Minna.

According to him, the State Refugees Commission will operate under the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

The governor decried the huge number of IDPs in the state, noting that the Commission would effectively address the difficulties faced by the IDPs.

He also revealed that the State Government will, from its reserve, distribute 13,000 bags of grains to the IDPs in the state.

Bago further assured that the State Government will continue to do its best to ameliorate the sufferings of the IDPs.
