The new Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, was officially turbaned by the kingmakers on Wednesday in his palace.
The new monarch’s appointment was recently approved by the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.
Maikarfi, turbaned as the seventh Maigari of Lokoja by the kingmakers led by Talban Lakwaja, Air Marshall Ndatsu Umaru (retd), took over from Alhaji (Dr) Muhammad Kabir Maikarfi III, who died in September 2022 at the age of 80.
Addressing his subjects shortly after the turbaning ceremony, the new Maigari of Lokoja promised to work for peace, stability and the development of the emirate in a bid to promote the overall development of the emirate and the state in general.
He maintained that priority would be given to the unity and development of his people.
The royal father enjoined the people in the emirate to rally around him, stressing the need for peace, unity and development of their community.
He also thanked the kingmakers for bestowing the position of Maigari on him.
The ceremony was witnessed by Talban Lakwaja, former military governor of Kano State Air Marshall Ndatsu Umaru (retd), Dan Darma of Lokoja Ahmed Nasir, Tafida of Lokoja, Olu of Oworo, and Rogan of Eggan, among other traditional rulers.
