Nasarawa: Police investigates alleged suicide of NSUK student

The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged suicide of a 23-year-old 100-level microbiology student, Miss Sarah Maikefi, at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, personnel from the Angwan Lambu Police Division in Keffi Local Government Area have been dispatched to the area where the tragic incident occurred to uncover the circumstances surrounding the student’s untimely death.

The news of Sarah’s death unfolded after the deceased completed her semester examinations on Friday.

Miss Patience Maikefi, the cousin of the late Sarah and also a student at Nasarawa State University Keffi, revealed that Sarah called her on the phone, expressing profound distress and a sense of overwhelming despair.

The cousin recounted that Sarah abruptly ended the call, prompting multiple unsuccessful attempts to reconnect with her.

Patience stated that it was only when Sarah’s roommate summoned her to the school clinic that the devastating truth was revealed.

Amidst tears, Patience Maikefi recounted the heart-wrenching discovery at the university clinic, where it was confirmed that her cousin had taken a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper.

A close friend of the deceased, disclosed that Sarah had informed him about completing her last semester examinations and needing some rest before heading to Akwanga.

However, hours later, he was shocked to learn about her tragic death.

The friend shared that Sarah had been grappling with depression, allegedly stemming from betrayal by her friends.

He stated that Sarah had contemplated suicide on multiple occasions.

Sarah Maikefi had since been laid to rest in her hometown in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
