NARD cries for release of colleague after seven months in captivity

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), has intensified calls for the safe return of Dr Ganiyat Popoola, a resident doctor at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna.

The victim was kidnapped on December 27, 2023, alongside her husband and nephew.

The husband of Dr Ganiyat Popoola was released after a ransom was paid, Popoola and her nephew remain in the hands of their captors.

NARD, in a series of social media posts on Monday and Tuesday, expressed concern within the medical community, making appeals for their immediate release.

In its efforts to ensure the release of their colleague, the association’s campaign is marked by the hashtag #BringBackDrGaniyat.

In one of the posts, it says, “7 months, not 7 minutes, a mother, sister, aunt, wife, helpmaid have been in captivity. Bring Back Dr Ganiyat, please.”

Another post said, “Our beloved friend and colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola, was brutally kidnapped on December 27, 2023, alongside her husband and nephew, lamenting that while her husband has been released after a ransom was paid, Dr Ganiyat and her nephew have been held captive for over six months.”

According to NARD, they said that they desperately need help to bring her home safely.
