N70,000 minimum wage good, review politicians’ lifestyle – Moghalu to Tinubu

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Kingsley Moghalu, has described the N70,000 minimum wage approved by President Bola Tinubu as a good thing.

Moghalu said the next step after the minimum wage increment should be the review of maximum wages and the lifestyle of the political class.

Posting on X, Moghalu wrote, “Good thing that President @officialABAT has approved a N70,000 minimum wage with a promise to review every 3 years.

“As I had argued in past months, 70K was the barest minimum and not beyond 100K, bearing economic realities in the private sector in mind. Next, can we review the “maximum” wages and lifestyles of the political class, especially @nassnigeria members?”

On Thursday, Tinubu agreed N70,000 new minimum wage increase for Nigerian workers.

The agreement was reached during a meeting with representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.

The president also promised that the federal government would support the sub-national and private sectors to pay the N70,000 minimum wage.
