Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has called on all security agents and other people of the state to remain calm against a clash between police and military operatives that claimed the life of a police inspector.
Some military operatives early on Wednesday attacked the state headquarters of the Adamawa State Police Command, Yola; a development understood now to be an escalation of a confrontation between police and military operatives at a checkpoint earlier in the night of Tuesday.
In a press statement released Wednesday afternoon by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Winosikou, Governor Fintiri appealed for accommodation and tolerance among security agents.
“The incident is unacceptable at this time of peacebuilding,” Fintiri said, appealing to the parties to exercise restraint in the overall peace of the state.
Urging all security personnel on special assignment to remain at their duty posts and conduct themselves with a high sense of maturity, Governor Fintiri said, “I am concerned that such acrimony could have lasting consequences on the hard-earned peace we have been able to build over the years.
“I appeal to all security personnel for restraint, mutual respect and tolerance for one another as people destined to work together in this great State. I appeal for patience and understanding as the administration works towards lasting solutions to these conflicts.”
