Man in court for allegedly stealing lace worth N4.595m

arraigned a 47-year-old man, Kunle Ahmed, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 200 bundles of lace worth N4.595 million.

The defendant, a supervisor in a fabrics shop, who resides at 15, Demurin St., Ketu, Lagos, is charged with stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offence was committed between September and October 2023 at Oshodi, Lagos.

Akeem said that 200 bundles of lace, valued at N4.595 million, were missing when the store was audited.

He said that the defendant was the one supervising sales at the shop, owned by the complainant, Mrs Mulikat Ola.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravene Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 31 for mention.
