Mafa rebirth: Yobe govt unveils plan to resettle displaced community, rebuild lives

The Yobe State Government has said it is setting the stage for the safe return of displaced residents of Mafa community and the restoration of peace following the September first attack on the community that led to the killing of 34 persons.

The decision was taken during a high-level security meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, which sought to evaluate current security arrangements and devise effective countermeasures to prevent further security breaches in the state.

Following extensive closed-door deliberations, the Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), outlined key outcomes of the meeting, including a comprehensive plan to resettle displaced persons and rebuild infrastructure.

“The military and police are already planning to jointly clear the entire Mafa and environs of any unexploded ordnance,” he said.

According to Abdulsalam, the military high command has been directed to clear the entire Magumeri Forest to Damasak in Borno State and ensure that the area is dominated by all manner of offensive military operations.

“The state government is planning to resettle the inhabitants of Mafa after providing them with the necessary livelihood supports. Once that is done and it is safe, they will be returned,” he said.

Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd) also revealed plans by the state government to enable the displaced people of Mafa community to harvest their crops soon.

Recall that the Mafa community in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State was displaced following a violent attack by ISWAP terrorists on the community, which led to the killing of many locals and the destruction of dozens of properties.
