Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kwara State council, Comrade Saheed Murtala Olayinka, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look for capable hands to handle the issues of economy and insecurity in the country.
In an interview with newsmen at the Labour House, Ilorin, on Tuesday shortly after the end of the first day nationwide planned protest by Nigerian workers, Olayinka said there are brilliant and intelligent Nigerians who can change the narrative as the economy of the country takes a nosedive.
“Look for people who know the job and give them the privilege and opportunity to serve the government.
“Every second, prices of goods and services continue to increase and the naira too continues to fall, while workers on fixed income continue to suffer,” he said.
On the issue of insecurity, he said Nigerians don’t derive anything in jetting out of the country as there is no place like home .
He urged the Federal Government to work more on the security issue and tighten the loopholes.
The labour chairman expressed conviction that the first day of the protest must have sent a strong message to the authorities in government.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kwara State council, Abdullateef Ahmed, earlier in a vote of thanks, described the current socio-economic situation as unacceptable generally.
The workers, led by the state chairman of NLC and other union leaders, marched peacefully to the Governor’s Office, Ilorin, under the watchful eyes of police officers and returned to the Labour House on the first day of the protest.
