Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has appealed to all citizens and stakeholders in Nigeria to allow democracy to flourish in Nigeria.
The governor explained that democracy has led to development and also ensured that the voices of the people are always heard.
Otu through his Deputy, Peter Odey made the call at an event ahead of the 25th anniversary of the June 12, 1993, presidential elections, which was won by late Chief MKO Abiola but was annulled by then military president, Gen Ibrahim Babangida.
Otu spoke on the significance of the said election, maintaining that it helped to fuel Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
He paid tribute to heroes like Moshood Bashorun Abiola, MKO, for their contributions to democracy in Nigeria.
The governor expressed happiness for the 25 years of unbridled democracy, saying it has provided valuable lessons and blessings for his state.
He expressed gratitude for the patriotic leaders who have guided Cross River State and Nigeria reassuring the people that his administration prioritizes their welfare.
