Following the judgement by an Ondo State High Court that nullified the creation of the 33 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, the state government has disclosed that the judgement will be appealed.
While allaying the fears of the people over the development, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, stated that the LCDAs had come to stay.
A few weeks ago, the court, in its judgement, described the LCDAs created by the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as illegal and unlawful.
Speaking on the situation, Takuro emphasised that the grievances of those who went to court over the creation of the LCDAs would be addressed, adding that the legal option would be looked into by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
He said: “One thing I can assure you about LCDAs is that they have come to stay. Nothing will abolish LCDA in Ondo State. This government believes in it, and it will sustain it.
“The judgement will be appealed, and all things needed to be done will be done to make sure that we sustain the legacy of our former boss. We will approach it in multiple ways; all issues have been put on the table.
“The state Ministry of Justice has studied the judgement, and it will give its report on what to do very soon. But one thing I can assure you is that the LCDAs will be sustained; they are not dead; they are very much alive.
“Those who are saying that the governor is behind the judgement are the enemies of Ondo State, who are always creating crises and blackmailing the government for political gains.”
