Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta has revealed Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho returned to the club in perfect condition after their horrific airport ordeal in Libya.
Ejuke and Iheanacho were part of Nigeria’s squad that was held hostage in a Libyan airport for several hours earlier in the week.
The players were denied access to water and food by Libyan authorities during their ordeal.
They declined to honour the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday four encounter against Libya because of the incident.
“Very unpleasant. Professional players having to spend so much time in an airport is something that cannot happen,” Pimienta told a press conference.
“The federations have to be aware of these situations. Spending a day almost without food and without sleep is not acceptable. Luckily, they have arrived in perfect condition.”
Sevilla will face Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Sunday.
The Rojiblancos will be looking to beat Barcelona at the Camp Nou for the first time in 21 years.
