Kogi Govt condemns killing of Ijumu Chief, directs security agencies to apprehend killers

The Kogi State Government has condemned the killing of one Chief Ojo Olayinka, the Elepe of Ohi-Ogidi under Ijumu Local Government Area, by suspected herdsmen.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Chief Olayinka was allegedly killed by suspected herdsmen on his farm on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, on Wednesday, he described the incident as barbaric aimed at undermining the present administration’s determination and progress in securing the lives and property of Kogites.

According to Fanwo, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed security chiefs in the state and the State Security Adviser to ensure the perpetrators of the dastardly act are apprehended and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“Inasmuch as this may not bring back our beloved citizen who was murdered, it will reinforce the trust of our citizens in the security architecture of the state. We can not afford to relapse into a state of insecurity.

“We urge the people of Ogidi and Ijumu Local Government Areas to remain calm and not take the laws into their hands, no matter the level of provocation, as the state apparatus is strong enough to defend and secure the lives of our people and bring antisocial elements to book.

“The people should remain vigilant and volunteer useful intelligence to security agencies and community leaders.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the immediate family of the deceased, the Ogidi community, the people of Ijumu Local Government Area and indeed the traditional institution. May the soul of the departed rest in peace,” he stated.

Fanwo added that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo will remain committed to the security of lives and property and will make life unbearable for criminals in the state.
