Kidnapped Abia University DVC, Emezue regains freedom, hospitalized

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the Abia State University, Prof Godwin Emezue, who was kidnapped about two weeks ago by unknown hoodlums, has regained his freedom.

Emezue was kidnapped last month while fueling his car at a filling station in Umuahia by the bandits who also snatched an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card from Emezue’s wife before bundling their victim into their own waiting car and then driving away.

But the academic has now been released after the kidnappers reportedly collected a huge ransom from Emezue’s family.

DAILY POST gathered that the Deputy Vice Chancellor was manhandled by his kidnappers during his time in captivity, and has now been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Though the management of the Abia State University, Uturu, the Abia State Police Command and the family of the university don have not issued any statement confirming his release, some of his close associates in Umuahia confirmed the development to our correspondent.
