The Kebbi State Government said it will establish a commission for persons with disabilities to ensure all-inclusive governance in the state.
Commissioner for Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed disclosed this in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday while briefing newsmen shortly after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Nasir Idris.
Ahmed said that the decision to establish the commission was reached at the meeting where the council sent the bill to the legislature.
According to him: “This came about as a result of a BBC Hausa programme, “A Fada a Cika” on January 1, where some persons with disabilities complained directly to the governor. They complained that the decision was taken by many states, that it was a national matter approved by the National Assembly, and that most of the states have established the commission, while Kebbi is one of the few states that have not done so.
“After hearing the complaint from some persons living with disabilities during the programme, the governor directed the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state to quickly prepare the bill and bring it to the council’s meeting for onward transmission to the state House of Assembly for approval.”
The commissioner said the governor is committed to ratifying the bill as soon as it has been passed by the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
He announced that Gov Idris also approved the holding of the annual Regatta Cultural Festival of Yauri Emirate from February 7 to 10.
