Kano: Anti-graft agency arrests 3 govt officials for alleged misappropriation of students fees

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested and detained three staff of the state Ministry of Health over alleged misappropriation of registration fees of 186 school of nursing students amounting to over N5 million

Our correspondent gathered that those arrested are the former Director, College of Nursing, Hajia Hasiya Sani, the Accountant of Madobi School of Nursing, Ahmed Zubairu and the Focal Person at Madobi School of Nursing, Fadilu Aliyu.

Confirming the arrest of the three suspects, the Commission’s Head of Operations, Salisu Sale, said outcry by the students spurred the agency to launch an investigation into the matter.

He said for about three years, 120 students of the College of Nursing Science, Danbatta, were yet to be indexed and certified by the Nursing Council due to the non-payment of their fees by the focal person, Zubairu Idris.

“Idris allegedly misappropriated the fees of the students, a development which put them in a precarious situation for about three years during the tenure of Hajia Hasiya Sani as the school director,” Sale said.

‘’After we arrested him and with discreet interrogation and investigation, he accepted liability and signed an agreement to pay back the money before we prosecute him.

‘’Presently he has paid the fees of about 44 students out of the 120 students.”

It was gathered that the Madobi Focal Person, Fadilu Aliyu, confessed to investigators that the money was allegedly invested in cryptocurrency and he lost the funds in the venture.

The Commission noted that investigation is ongoing in the matter.
