Jigawa workers express concern over deadline of verification exercise

Civil Servants in Jigawa State have expressed concern over the deadline given by the state government for the conclusion of the ongoing verification exercise.

This is coming after the state government announced the date for the conclusion of the verification exercise in a statement signed by Magaji Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Ministry of Finance.

The statement read’ “This is to inform the general public that the round off of staff verification exercise has commenced on Monday 13th Nov 2023 to Saturday 18th Nov 2023 by 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily at Ministry of Finance conference Hall.

“Other staff who are not verified are urged to ensure that they are verified within the stipulated period because there is no extra time and any staff who is not verified consider himself as a ghost worker”

Reacting to the announcement, a classroom teacher, Mallam Auwalu, said there is a need for the state government to consider adding more time for worker

According to him, about 70 per cent of classroom teachers are not verified.

“I think Jigawa State schools should be closed for one week to give teachers a chance to travel to Dutse for verification. This is because more than 70% of Jigawa State Basic and Senior Secondary School Teachers are unverified. And the verification exercise will end on 28th November 2023.

“Jigawa State Ministry of Finance remains the only approved center for verification as contained in the announcement. So, I think closing schools is the only alternative that will give teachers a chance to protect their jobs from being ghost workers.
Another civil servant, Ahmad Ilallah, said, “The deadline given by the state Ministry of Finance to civil servants who missed the verification exercise has caused controversy among defaulters.

“The exercise has recorded a lot of irregularities from the beginning to the end; most of the civil servants have not been verified.

“The company was given a contract to meet the civil servants at their various places of work but they failed to do so

“It is not the fault of the civil servants because those who are carrying out the exercise did not do it as planned, therefore they must go back and complete their work.”

DAILY POST reported that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, arrested a verification official over alleged extortion of money from civil servants who wish to be verified.
