Jigawa road crash claims six lives, others injured

No fewer than six persons were confirmed dead and seven others seriously injured in an auto crash at Sabon Garin Takanebu in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Wednesday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Adam, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the accident involved a Mitsubishi Canter with the number plate XA 519 KUR.

Adam explained that the incident happened when the driver, on reaching Sabon Gari Market, lost control and ran into traders, as a result of which 10 persons sustained various degrees of injuries while three died on the spot.

“A team of policemen rushed to the scene and conveyed the corpses and the injured to the Jahun General Hospital.

“However, three additional persons also died on the way to the hospital. They were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, bringing the total number of deaths to six, while the remaining seven victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”

The Police spokesperson also stated that the corpses have been released to the relatives of the victims for proper burial.
