The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says no fewer than 5,642 eligible voters in the eight cancelled polling units are going to decide the seat winner for the coming Saturday rerun election.
State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Prof Muhammad Bashar disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the commission’s readiness for the election.
According to him ” a total of eight polling units, seven in Birnin Kudu LGA and one in Buji LGA will participate in the rerun election”
He said INEC is fully prepared and has already distributed the sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the election.
“Total number of registered voters for the election is 5,689 while a total of 5,642 PVCs are collected in the constituency,”
Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the main opposition party People Democratic Party, PDP, have reacted over the upcoming Saturday rerun election for the Birnin Kudu/ Buji Federal constituency.
Both the parties promised to ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Saturday Re-run election in Jigawa State, they all hold confidence in winning the election.
It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Adamu Yakubu of the PDP, the winner of the Birnin Kudu/ Buji federal constituency, after defeating serving member Magaji Dau Aliyu of the APC.
The latter, however, headed to the tribunal, where Adamu’s victory was also affirmed, he later approached the Court of Appeal and the election was declared inconclusive and a rerun ordered.
