Jigawa LG elections: Police enforce restriction of movement

The Jigawa State Police Command said it has concluded all the security arrangements to ensure that the local government election is carried out peacefully.

Jigawa State Commissioner of Police A.T. Abdullahi disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the command preparedness for the Saturday election.

He explained that the command has imposed restrictions on all forms of vehicular movement except those on essential services, such as JISIEC officials, election observers, ambulances for medical emergencies, and firefighters, among others, from Friday, October 4, by midnight to Saturday, October 5, 2024, by 6 pm

According to him: “We are reminding all political parties and their supporters in the state that the ban on political thuggery and the use of weapons such as a cutlass, stick, knife, machete, bow and arrow, guns and other dangerous weapons during the election is still enforced.

“Political parties and their followers intending to use weapons of any kind are advised to refrain from such and strictly adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process.”

The commissioner of police warned all security aids and escorts from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling units and collation centres during the election period.

CP Abdullahi said the command, in collaboration with all sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders, will work harmoniously to fish out troublemakers and their sponsors, as well as conduct discreet investigations and arraign them in court to face the full wrath of the law.
