Jigawa govt clears air on alleged interest in Agricultural loan to workers

The Jigawa State government has debunked rumours that its newly introduced Agricultural loan to workers was aimed at subjecting workers to interest.

Technical Advisor on Agriculture for the state Governor, Dr Saifullahi Umar stated this while reacting to claims circulating on social media that the programme is interest-bearing.

DAILY POST reported that the Jigawa State Government initiated the Jigawa Worker Agricultural Support Programme recently to empower government workers to achieve self-sufficiency in food production, ensuring that their families have access to a steady supply of nutritious food.

Dr Umar while clarifying the situation, said the state government considered the current food prices inflation, limited resources and access to agricultural inputs, saying, “This is to inform the general public that, the Jigawa workers Agricultural support programme is a non-interest bearing agricultural inputs loan for Jigawa State Government and local government employees design to help them achieve food security.
