Jackrich’s Arrest: Group demands explanation from security agencies

The South-South Youth Initiative has expressed concern over the resurgence of violence resulting in the loss of innocent lives in the Niger Delta region, which is traditionally known for its peaceful disposition.

The group voiced grievances against the ongoing provocations by government agents targeting the Niger Delta populace, stating that tensions are escalating with each passing day.

In a statement signed by its President, Saviour Oscar, the group condemned the tragic deaths of two promising youths, Diamond Tamunoiminabo, and Sincere Jackrich, during the arrest of Sobomabo Jackrich, the 2023 Rivers State governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement, NRM.

The statement further denounced the alleged random arrest of Jackrich, who they described as a respected community leader, without clear justification.

It also highlighted that despite his arrest, authorities have failed to provide a coherent explanation, leaving his family and supporters in a state of distress and uncertainty.

According to the statement, “The South-South Youth Initiative stands in solidarity with the people of Usokun and the broader Niger Delta community, advocating tirelessly for their rights and dignity.”

Jackrich was arrested by men dressed in military uniform at his residence in Degeme, Degema local government area of the state on Monday.

Two persons are said to have died during the operation.
