Israeli airstrike on Iran consulate in Syria kills IRGC commander, six others

Israeli warplanes have flattened an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, killing six people including a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, IRGC, Reuters reports.

DAILY POST reports that Israel has repeatedly hit Iranian targets during the six-month war in Gaza.

A Lebanese security source told Reuters that one of the casualties was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the IRGC.

The Iranian state television acknowledged that several Iranian diplomats had been killed.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency said five people were killed in the Israeli strike, while Syria’s SANA state news agency reported an unspecified number of deaths and injuries.

Israel, however, declined to comment on the incident, following its usual practice.
