Introduce policies to take Nigerians out of poverty – Women Surveyors tell Tinubu

The female wing of the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (NIS) has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to introduce policies that will take a majority of Nigerians out of poverty.

National Coordinator of WIS, Surveyor Elizabeth Oluwadara Olayiwola made this appeal at the opening of the 19th National Conference of the association in Oyo State on Tuesday.

The four-day event has “Proffering solutions for survival in a distressed economy” as its theme.

Olayiwola in her speech said many homes have been affected as a result of the current economic challenges in the country, appealing to the government to implement policies that will lift Nigerians out of poverty.

She added that there is also a need for the government to support small-scale business owners.

Olayiwola said, “The theme of this conference “Proffering solutions for survival in a distressed economy” is the focal and primary aim of the society in harnessing opportunities in the present economic realities. In a country of above two hundred (200) million people, it is important for every man to obtain his/her daily bread. Grappling with the current realities does not take knowledge alone but wisdom to apply the knowledge gained.

“So, there should be policies that are implemented that will help the people understand the interest of the government in lifting them out of poverty by supporting their small-scale businesses”.

The Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Lead City University, Professor Grace Oloukoi who gave a keynote speech, noted that women are mostly affected by the current economic challenges.

“When we have economic stress, women are mostly affected. So, whenever there is distress, they know it better. That is why in a sociological survey, men are likely to respond to stress positively.

“Build your social network. Flow with your extended family. We may diversify our economy in a legal way”.
