Insecurity: Obaseki orders state security network, ESSN to resume operation

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has ordered members of the State Security Network, ESSN, to resume their regular duties.

DAILY POST reports that the state commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare who disclosed this in a statement said the order came in the wake of the deteriorating security situation in the state.

Nehikhare also added that the order was taken after the State Security Council meeting on Monday where the council undertook a review of the recent rise in homicides and other security incidents in the state.

According to him, the government noted that the current state of insecurity in the state would not be tolerated, and the Edo State Commissioner of Police has been mandated to ensure the restoration of order and sanity in the State.

“The state government restates its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the State”, he said.

DAILY POST recalls that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun had during the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state banned the state-owned security outfit and others created by the state government.
