Insecurity: Governor Abdullahi Sule engages with Fulani leaders in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has met with the leadership of the Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, to discuss and address the ongoing security challenges in the state.

The meeting, which took place at the residence of the national president of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, was focused on seeking the support of the sociocultural group in combating issues such as kidnapping, banditry, and other organised crimes in the state.

Sule emphasised the need for collaboration with the organisation and other Fulani groups in the state, given that individuals of the Fulani ethnic background are often implicated in various attacks, saying that many incidents are perpetrated by foreigners who infiltrate the state, causing havoc and leaving behind a trail of death and destruction.

The governor urged the Fulani body’s vigilante unit to assist security agencies in tracking and preventing the invasion of the state by outsiders who often pose as herders, stating that it is important to ensure that individuals not associated with the Fulani community do not engage in criminal activities within the state.

“Every time there is a kidnapping, the incident is mostly blamed on the Fulani. That is why I deemed it necessary to stop here and speak to Fulani leaders about the need to ensure strangers do not come into our state to perpetrate criminal activities.

“The Fulani community in Nasarawa State is peace-loving, and as such, we should do everything possible to ensure that strange elements do not come into our state to carry out criminal activities. It’s on record that the Fulani community operates a vigilante group that is assisting the government in the area of peace and security,” he stated.

In response, Alhaji Bodejo commended the governor for his initiatives to bring various socio-cultural and religious groups in the state to the discussion table. He assured the governor of the association’s commitment to collaborate with various groups and security agencies to address the prevailing security challenges in the country.
