A former member of the House of Representatives, Sani Takori has advised Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State to implement reports submitted to him by two security committees headed by former Inspector General of Police Muhammad Abubakar and former Deputy Governor Ibrahim Wakkala, in order to end insecurity in the state.
Takori, who represented Bukkuyum/Gummi federal constituency of Zamfara State between 2007 and 2011, said that there are some vital recommendations in the committees’ reports that can help in the fight against banditry, if implemented by the state government.
The former federal lawnmower urged the governor to always collaborate with retired military and security personnel for useful advise on how to address insecurity in the state.
According to him, no resident of Zamfara State is happy with the high level of insecurity in the state.
“Let me tell you the truth, my humble governor, many legitimate endeavors have been shut down due to mainly insecurity. The farmers that have no other means of livelihood except farming have turned to streets beggars.
“Farmers no longer access their farmlands due to insecurity situation which has brought about the unwanted escalation of prices of foodstuffs in the market, making the poor masses to wonder if actually Nigeria is practicing democracy in the country,” he said.
On acquiring weapons for self-defense which former Governor Matawalle wanted to introduce in the state, Takori said that even the United Nations, UN approved self-defense and that it was included in many portions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He added, “Both the international and national laws accept that, but in Nigeria, we are not matured enough to carry guns in the name of self-defense because we can use the arms wrongly.
“But then, you must secure your license to enable you to use gun. The problem in Nigeria is that the licensed guns may fall into the hands of the public enemies whom the government is fighting against and that is the conclusion of the whole issue.”
