Ibadan Explosion: Oyo govt gives fresh update on death toll

The death toll from the recent explosion that rocked Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, has risen to five.

Fatai Owoseni, the state’s special adviser on security matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, gave the update during a press briefing on Thursday.

According to Owoseni, two more bodies were recovered.

He said: “Rescue operation is still ongoing. As of yesterday, we had three casualties but this morning, just about 30 minutes ago, I got information from the security operatives supporting the medical team that two more dead bodies were recovered this morning.

“The security agencies, especially the police, the DSS being supported by the Nigerian Army team EOD Unit as well are putting the bits and pieces of information together to ensure that discreet information is done towards prosecution to ensure that whoever, either directly, remotely connected with that incident is brought to justice.”

Recall that the explosion occurred at 7.30pm at Dejo Oyelese Street in Old Bodija in Ibadan.

Makinde had on Wednesday blamed illegal miners for the explosion.

He also confirmed that two persons died and 77 others were injured.
