‘He’s always been PDP man’ — Labour Party’s reaction to Okupe’s resignation

The Labour Party has reacted to the resignation of Dr Doyin Okupe, former Campaign Director of its Presidential Campaign Council in the last election.

DAILY POST reports that Okupe tendered his resignation from the party on Monday following ideological differences that emerged after the 2023 general elections.

Reacting, The National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Mr Obiora Ifoh, said Okupe, a former spokesman for ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has always been a Peoples Democratic Party man.

The party nonetheless appreciated Okupe’s efforts to ensure that the party won the last election, even though it was defeated by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, at the presidential level.

“We wish him very well. We want to say that he is saying that he is leaving because he is a Liberal Democrat, while the Labour Party is a Social Democrat.

“It is also a good thing because he is not expected to be in a territory where his ideological bent will be confused or different. He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be.

“We wish him all the best in his future political pursuits. Though we saw the letter on social media, we have not received it officially,” Ifoh told Daily Trust on Monday.
