‘He won’t be Messi, Rooney’ – Barton comments on Endrick’s potential for Real Madrid

Joey Barton, former Manchester City midfielder, has quelled fans’ expectations surrounding Brazilian striker, Endrick’s potential at Real Madrid.

Although the 17-year-old recently scored Brazil’s winning goal against England at Wembley on Saturday, becoming the youngest player in club and international football history to score at the historic stadium and the youngest player to score for Brazil since Ronaldo Nazario in 1994, Barton remains wary of the teenager’s performance.

He compared Endrick’s movement to Brazil icon, Romario, and expressed doubts over his ability to reach the talents of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi or England hero, Wayne Rooney.

Barton suggested that the young striker may not move well enough without the ball to become a top player, a factor that may prevent him from becoming a true star and not just another flashy show pony.

“Enrick debut goal at Wembley at 17,” Barton posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“Strange shape and mover. Has streaks of Romario. Romario would have scored that chance at the end.

“Enrick (Big Shout! Will be another show pony.) Don’t think he moves well enough without the ball.

“He won’t be Messi. He won’t be Rooney. Vinicius Jr is Brazil’s best by a mile. Fantastic talent him.”
