Hajj: Kwara pilgrims disrupt activities at Ilorin Airport over delayed flight

About 270 intending pilgrims protested at the Ilorin International Airport over delayed flight to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj exercise on Friday.

Reports said the protest commenced around 4:00 pm, with the pilgrims blocking the Ilorin/Ogbomoso/Ibadan Expressway, in the Kwara State capital.

The protesters obstructed the movement of vehicles along the expressway, preventing both entry and exit from the airport premises on the Ilorin/Ogbomosho highway.

One of the protesters, Sadudeen Alapo, alleged that they had been in the Ilorin Hajj camp for the past five days without provision of an aircraft before an aircraft was brought Thursday night, but they are yet to be airlifted.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Amirul Hajj, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, has explained that the aircraft brought to take the intending pilgrims developed fault, saying the Board has called for another airline that will airlift the pilgrims later Friday.

Oloriegbe urged the pilgrims to remain calm assuring that everyone will be airlifted by Friday night.
