Gunmen kill man, abduct wife, neighbour in Zamfara

A gunmen attack in Buluku, on the outskirts of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, has resulted in the tragic death of Ashiru Nagoma and the abduction of his wife and neighbour.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, with ASP Yazid Abubakar conveying the details to reporters on Tuesday.

According to Abubakar, the assailants targeted Nagoma, and when he resisted, they mercilessly killed him before abducting his wife and neighbour.

However, reports from a Maiduguri-based security expert, Zagazola Makama, also disclosed that bandits infiltrated Gusau town during the early hours of Tuesday, around 2 am, and abducted numerous worshippers from a mosque while they were engaged in tahajjud (midnight) prayers.

DAILY POST had reported that bandits on Tuesday attacked a mosque in Gusau, capital of Zamfara State, and kidnapped scores of worshippers as the Muslim faithful were observing the famous congregational prayer, Tahajjud.

Responding to the distressing events, Abubakar reiterated that the bandits’ primary target was Nagoma, stating that the mosque was not assaulted during the attack.

He assured the public that rescue efforts were underway, with authorities striving to bring the perpetrators to justice and secure the safe return of the abducted victims.

“The bandits did not attack the mosque. They had a target, and it was the man that was attacked. His wife and neighbour were abducted.

“Our rescue team is on top of the situation and is making frantic efforts to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to book and the abducted victims are rescued. An investigation is also ongoing,” he maintained.

Recall that a similar incident occurred in February when some gunmen abducted worshippers from a mosque in Tsafe town in Zamfara State.

Eyewitnesses, simply identified as Garba, recounted the terror inflicted by the bandits, who stormed the mosque during the morning prayer, instilling fear and forcibly taking away unsuspecting individuals.
