Gunmen abduct naval officer, 7 others in Akwa Ibom

Gunmen on Monday night abducted a naval rating and seven other persons in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The incident, DAILY POST learnt, happened at Classic Point Hotel, Ibaka.

This is coming a few days after the driver and 18 passengers of an AKTC bus leaving Uyo for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were abducted and their whereabouts are still unknown.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Timfon John, who confirmed the abduction of the eight victims, said Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara had led a team of security personnel to the community, expressing hope that the victims would be rescued safely and the offenders brought to book.

According to her: “When the police got the information, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara led a team of security personnel to the community.

“I can assure you that with that visit by the CP and other strategic approaches, normalcy will return.”

Meanwhile, the Naval authorities in Akwa Ibom have yet to speak on the development.
