Gov. Kefas ascents to bill amending tenure of council chairmen in Taraba

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, on Friday, signed into law the bill amending the tenure of local government chairman.

The three-year tenure of local government chairmen was reviewed to two years by the members of the State House of Assembly.

The assent came hours before the local government council’s election, slated for Saturday.

Assenting to the bill at the Executive chamber of the Government House, Kefas commended the members for passing the bill and assured them that his administration will ensure that the Saturday local election is conducted peacefully.

He expressed satisfaction with the synergy between the executive and legislature in the state, praying it is sustained for the good of the people.

He pledged to work with the local government chairmen who would be coming on board to fast-track development at the third tier of government.

The House Committee Chairman on Information, Nelson Len, said the passing of the bill is to enable the successful conduct of the council poll which is scheduled to commence tomorrow.
