FRSC warns cargo drivers against overloading trucks, carrying passengers

The Sango-Ota Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has advised truck drivers to avoid overloading their trucks and transporting people to avoid incidents during the holiday season.

Akeem Ganiyu, the unit commander, issued the warning after a mobile court session on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun.

Ganiyu stated that two reckless truck drivers were apprehended at the toll gate on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway for overloading their vehicles and transporting passengers.

The drivers were brought before the mobile court and prosecuted, according to the unit commander.

He said a vehicle transporting tomatoes from the north to Ijako market was stopped and the driver was penalised for overloading the truck with 10 passengers sitting on top of the cargo.

He also stated that the driver of a container containing bananas and yams was charged for transporting seven passengers with the products.

“We decided to embark on this exercise so that this could serve as a deterrent to other motorists who intend to commit the same offence. In addition, the FRSC is also using this opportunity to warn truck or trailer drivers who are fond of embarking on such acts that FRSC would not hesitate to arrest them,” he said.
