Four community leaders, one prince jailed for defrauding former Osun Speaker of N38m

A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo has convicted five persons for defrauding the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye of the sum of N38 million and releasing his nude video on the internet.

The convicts; Kazeem Agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, Abdul-Rasheed Ojonla, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Kehinde, Oyebanji Oyeniyi and Ismaila Azeez were arraigned in court on October 19, 2018.

Delivering the judgement on Tuesday, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola convicted the 5 persons over the offences hinged on conspiracy, advance-fee fraud, and cyberstalking, among others.

Agbabiaka (community leader), Oyebode(community leader), Ojonla (community leader), and Babatunde (Prince) were convicted for conspiracy and advance-fee fraud while Adebiyi was convicted for cyberstalking.

Justice Ayoola established that the convicts swindled the Speaker of N38 million and also posted his nude video on the internet to defame and further extort him.

The judge, who said the accused persons portend grave danger to society, added that most of the victims of similar occurrences often resort to not coming out to the public.

The 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th defendants, Kazeem Agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, and Babatunde Oluajo respectively were convicted and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment having been found guilty of the 1st and 2nd count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.

He, however, discharged and acquitted the 7th defendant, Ismaila Azeez, on the 4th and 5th count charge bothering on cyberbullying while Kehinde Oseni was found guilty of the same charge and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
