Fire has destroyed academic facilities worth millions of naira at SteadyFlow College of Education in Akparabong, Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The incident occurred on Monday evening.

According to an eyewitness, Ada Agbor, the fire started after a passerby mistakenly discarded a cigarette filter at a bush close to the perimeter fence of the school.

Facilities destroyed by the fire include lecture halls, toilets and offices.

However, the founder of the school, Mr Jones Tangban, a former National Assembly member representing Boki/Ikom federal constituency, attributed the fire incident to indiscriminate bush burning

He appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to come to the rescue of the school.
