The Federal Government has promised waste contractors fast payment for trash services to promote optimal service delivery in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Dr Fred Kpakol, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Environment and Waste Management, stated this on Friday in Abuja,
Kpakol advised the contractors to work closely with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to keep the city clean.
He encouraged the contractors to continue to be attentive in carrying out their tasks and not hide behind delayed wage payments.
He informed the contractors that Wike values merit and challenged them to demonstrate merit in all waste management services provided.
The SSA assured the contractors that all outstanding payments would be made promptly to assist their operations.
Mr Ibrahim Babayo, Chairman of the Association of FCT Solid Waste Cleaning Contractors, complained about wage delays due to increases in gasoline and diesel prices.
Babayo praised Kpakol for his fast involvement in the contractors’ requests and assured FCT residents of effective garbage service delivery.
Mr. Osi Braimah, Director of AEPB, advised contractors to consider measures to maintain a clean environment in the FCT.
According to Braimah, it is critical to create a clean and safe environment in the FCT for both residents and visitors.
