Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to eradicate criminal elements from the nation’s capital.
He spoke in Abuja at the Ministerial Sectoral Updates as part of activities to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s one year in office.
The first session of the Sectoral Briefing has in attendance the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike; Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim Bio; Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu; Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmud; Minister of State Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande.
Wike was responding to a question on the harassment Nigerians and visitors face on a daily basis when encountering these touts in the city.
“On the harassment by touts because of revenue collection and other things. We have called AMAC,” he said.
“We have to sit with them, form a committee and have an account where the money comes to FCT and you collect your own share. In that way we reduce touting, we reduce harassment and this double taxation….
“Bear in mind that it is part of our responsibility. We’ll get rid of them, but it cannot just be immediately.”
