Fake policeman arrested for extortion in Adamawa

A man has been arrested by operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly pretending to be a policeman and extorting money from people.

The suspect, Shafiu Abdulkadir, 26, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa in Yola North Local Government Area, was arrested on Thursday, September 26, according to a statement released on Friday by the police.

The statement, signed by spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspect was found extorting money from tricyclists along Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and around Jimeta Modern Market, both in Yola North LGA.

“The arrest was a follow-up to the information regarding the activities of some vigilante men going around threatening and extorting Keke NAPEP riders,” the statement explained.

It added: “Upon his arrest, the suspect was found wearing police camouflage trousers and a black shirt with the inscription ‘Special Force’ and boots.”

The statement added that the suspect would be charged in court upon completion of investigation.
