Factional Speaker of Rivers Assembly, Ehie escapes alleged assassination attempt

The factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Eddison Ehie has allegedly escaped assassination attempts on his life and his family.

A statement posted on the platform of Legislative correspondents in the state claimed the former leader of the House was attacked at about 11pm on Sunday, 19th November 2023, by a group of armed thugs and rogue Police Officers.

The statement claimed the men were fully armed with the intention to assassinate Ehie and his family.

Ehie is the former Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He was recently suspended by the embattled Speaker of the state House, Martins Amaewhule, and signed by 24 members of the House.

This followed a fire incident at the state House which affected the Hallowed Chamber on 29 October, 2023.

Ehie was suspended alongside four members of the House after they were accused by their colleagues of allegedly masterminding the fire that razed the Assembly.

Still, on 29 October, the House also attempted to impeach Governor Siminialayi Fubara but the process was foiled by supporters of the governor.

On the same day, Ehie addressed journalists at the Rivers State Government House, declaring himself the Speaker of the House and the suspension of the embattled Speaker, Amaewhule, and other members (names he failed to mention).

The political crisis in the state was alleged to have been sponsored by the former Governor of the state, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Attempts by DAILY POST to reach out to Ehie have proven abortive as his lines are not connecting.
