Captain of the Netherlands, Virgil van Dijk, has hit out at the reaction of referee, Felix Zwayer following their 2-1 defeat to England in their Euro 2024 semi-final on Wednesday evening.
The Dutch lost the game despite taking the lead through Xavi Simons.
Harry Kane equalized from the spot, before Ollie Watkins scored in the 90th minute.
Kane’s penalty was awarded after Denzel Dumfries attempted to block a shot but ended up clipping the England captain on the foot.
The VAR team recommended referee Zwayer to review his decision and the German official opted to award Gareth Southgate’s side a penalty.
When asked about Zwayer’s performance, Van Dijk told beIN Sports: “I don’t know what to say, I don’t know if I should say something about this.
“But I think it says it all that the referee went in quite quickly after the game, and had no time to shake his hand.”
